Narcissus Workshop

There were twenty two  Plant Heritage members in all at the event hosted at Hullwood Barn on Sunday 2nd of April.  Darren Andrews gave an introduction to the International Horticultural Classification system for Daffodils, explaining  which species had been used for breeding in each group, and how a knowledge of this is very relevant to the cultivation of Narcissus within each division. Suffolk Plant Collectors at Suffolk New College for Record System Training

Suffolk’s Collection Holders were invited to use the excellent computer facilities at Suffolk New College during the recent half term break. Plant Heritage has made available a new internet based recording system for their National Plant Collections,  and ran a training session at the college with attendees including Melanie Collins from Mickfield Hostas, Sarah Cook, who has the National Plant Collection of Iris bred by Sir Cedric Morris, and Simon Weeks who holds the National Plant Collection of Erysimum (perennial wallflowers). … Continue reading →

Propagation Day November 2014

The focus at this month’s propagating morning was on hardwood cuttings, as well as plants including climbing Hydrangeas, Cardamon and Polystichum. Propagation days currently take place once a month. Open to members, they are a great way to get involved in plant conservation and to learn new propagating techniques. Roses Study Day 2013

Jim Marshall and Sarah Cook ran a very enjoyable and informative study day on Roses today (27th November 2013). After a short introduction from Sarah,  Jim talked about ‘Growing Healthy Roses’ covering; soils, mulching, nutrition, stimulants, pruning, pests, diseases and rose replant.
